We filter out IS-prefixed module codes (sub-units of a parent course), accreditation-of-prior-learning placeholders, and shells with no teaching hours. So “427 courses” means 427 actual things you could enrol on, not 427 catalogue rows. Length matters because plumbers don't solve the gap in 0 months — a 4-year apprenticeship and a 6-month CPD short-burst are not interchangeable, even if they hit the same SOC.
Sorted by live IoM vacancies divided by training months — the courses where the catalogue's "time invested" lines up best with the labour market's "hiring now". What counts as a course here: UCM Curriculum Master File parent courses with status = ACTIVE. Modules (IS-prefixed), accreditation-of-prior-learning placeholders and shells with neither teaching hours nor matched SOCs are suppressed at precompute. A course needs either a training length or at least one matched SOC to appear.
Primary SOC: the first SOC code matched by the keyword mapper for the course name. The mapper is specific-before-general, so for trades this is usually the correct career destination; for broad umbrella courses (e.g. "Business Level 3") it picks the most-common matching role. Automation / Augmentation / Frey-Osborne: per-SOC exposure figures. Automation = Anthropic Economic Index share of tasks AI can replace. Augmentation = share AI can amplify (high augmentation + low automation = AI-augmented role). Frey-Osborne = classic 2013 computerisation probability, still the sharpest signal for displacement.
Training lag (months): the fastest qualifying UCM route into the primary SOC, looked up per-occupation. Plumbers don't solve a shortage in 0 months — the lag column shows the minimum wait before a new trainee can practice independently. A blank value means there's no entry-level UCM pathway into that SOC.
