Job Description
Automation Risk
This role contains a high proportion of routine and codifiable tasks, such as measurement, documentation, and pass/fail decisions, which are increasingly automatable through AI vision systems and MES software. However, tasks requiring nuanced judgment, engineering drawing interpretation, and hands-on mentoring resist full automation, keeping some human involvement essential. Overall, the role is highly exposed to AI augmentation and partial substitution, especially for experienced inspectors.
Task analysis
- Inspect and measure machined or assembled parts for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings to determine inspection criteria and tolerances.
- Document and report inspection findings, including non-conformances and recommendations for corrective action.
- Reject or approve components based on inspection results and communicate decisions to production teams.
- Calibrate and perform minor adjustments to inspection equipment as required.
- Identify and escalate recurring quality issues or process deviations to supervisors.
- Train or mentor junior inspectors in inspection techniques and equipment use.
- Maintain a clean and organized inspection area to ensure safety and efficiency.
