Job Description
Automation Risk
This role features a mix of routine (equipment operation, documentation), augmented (NDT analysis, report writing), and human-centric (safety compliance, stakeholder liaison) tasks. Many technical and reporting functions are increasingly supported by AI and automation, but expert judgment, field presence, and safety oversight remain resistant to full automation. Overall, the role has moderate automation risk and high AI exposure due to the technical nature of the work.
Task analysis
- Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) on gas pipelines using ultrasonic, radiographic, and visual inspection techniques.
- Interpret and evaluate test results in accordance with relevant codes, standards, and procedures.
- Prepare and write detailed reports on pipeline integrity and testing outcomes.
- Visually inspect pipeline structures for signs of corrosion, fatigue, or other defects.
- Select, calibrate, and operate NDT equipment for pipeline testing.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations during all testing activities.
- Document and archive testing methods, processes, and results for regulatory and operational purposes.
- Liaise with engineering teams and stakeholders to communicate findings and recommend remedial actions.
- Participate in ongoing training and stay updated on new NDT technologies and regulatory requirements.
