This role has a high proportion of routine and semi-routine tasks, such as payment processing and cleaning, which are increasingly automatable with POS systems and cleaning equipment. However, key elements like customer interaction, service orientation, and teamwork require human presence and social intelligence, limiting full automation. GenAI and digital tools can augment order-taking and inventory, but the in-person service aspect remains resistant to substitution.

Task analysis

  • Prepare and serve coffee and other beverages to customers according to café standards.
  • Take customer orders, answer questions about menu items, and provide friendly service.
