This role involves a mix of routine tasks (cleaning, payment processing, restocking) that are increasingly automatable, and human-centric tasks (guest interaction, judgment, teamwork) that resist full automation. AI and digital tools can augment efficiency, but the need for social intelligence and real-time service keeps overall automation risk moderate.

Task analysis

  • Prepare and serve cocktails, wines, and a range of beverages to guests according to recipes and standards.
  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable service and recommendations to guests.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked bar area throughout service.
  • Check identification to verify age requirements for alcohol service.
  • Collect payment and balance cash receipts at the end of shifts.
  • Monitor guest consumption and intervene appropriately to limit excessive drinking.
  • Restock bar supplies, including beverages, ice, glassware, and garnishes.
