Job Description

This role is a limited term appointment for 2 years. About the role Are you a skilled and dedicated dentist looking to make a meaningful difference beyond routine practice? Join our Community Dental Service within the Integrated Primary and Community Care Group and take the next step in a role that combines clinical expertise with real community impact. As a Special Care Dentist, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across community clinics, domiciliary settings, and general anaesthetic lists. You’ll provide routine and urgent treatment under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation, and general anaesthesia, working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team and contributing to service development, improved patient access, and the promotion of oral health. This role focuses on caring for adults and children who are unable to access routine general dental services, including those with complex medical conditions, learning disabilities, physical impairments, or severe dental anxiety. Your skills will directly support patients with additional needs, ensuring they receive safe, effective, and dignified care in the most appropriate setting. If you are looking to apply your expertise within a supportive team and contribute to the ongoing development of a valued community service, we encourage you to submit your application and join us in delivering high-quality care across the Isle of Man. A workplace that invests in you ✔ A competitive salary that increases each 12 months until you reach the salary maximum. ✔ Annual leave starting from 34 days and 10 Bank Holidays. ✔ Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, the IOM Public Service offers two pension arrangements: the Isle of Man Government Unified Scheme 2011 or the Isle of Man Government Defined Contribution (DC) Arrangement. ✔ You may be eligible for a Blue Light Card, unlocking a wide range of exclusive discounts on shopping, food and leisure activities at hundreds of popular high street and online retailers. ✔ Our on-site education and training centre, Keyll Darree, comprises a lecture theatre, well stocked medical library, training facilities and a state-of-the-art simulation lab which is operated by trained simulation practitioners. ✔ We recognise the need for all medical staff on the Island to maintain connections with medicine in the United Kingdom and encourage links with other units, as well as providing study leave with pay and expenses to attend approved conferences and workshops. ✔ Free on-site car parking. ✔ Step away from NHS pressures and demands! The Island’s healthcare system is similar but separate to the UK NHS. ✔ Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility, which is exclusively for Public Service employees, to keep on top of your continuous professional development. ✔ Access to the staff canteen at Noble’s Hospital where you can purchase affordable food and drinks in your breaks. ✔ Free access to the Isle of Man Government Staff Welfare Service which offers professional counselling, emotional support and signposting on a wide range of issues. ✔ Accommodation may be available for the first 6 months in your role at a reduced rate for non-Island residents, subject to availability. Routine documentation and compliance tasks are increasingly supported by dental EHR and workflow software, while AI tools can augment service development and medication management. Overall, the role is low-risk for full automation but moderately exposed to AI augmentation.
