Job Description

Start Date: 1st May (trial required in April). Kings House is a boutique guesthouse located on the promenade in Douglas. We are launching a high-quality breakfast and seasonal dinner concept and are looking for a passionate and reliable cook to join us for the 2026 season. This is a seasonal position starting on 1st May. A paid trial and training period of one to two weeks will take place in April in order to learn the menu, preparation methods and kitchen standards before the season begins. The role involves preparing and serving a high-quality English breakfast each morning and preparing ingredients and menu components for the evening dinner service. The cook will be responsible for maintaining strong food hygiene standards, managing stock levels, placing supplier orders and keeping food and beverage records within an agreed budget. We are looking for someone confident working independently in a small kitchen environment who takes pride in presentation and consistency. The ideal working schedule would be a split shift from 7:00am to 13:00pm and from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, although we are open to discussing a morning-only shift from 7:00am to 1:00pm depending on the candidate. Flexibility is important, particularly during peak periods such as the TT and other seasonal events. Applicants must have previous experience in small hotels, guesthouses or independent restaurants. Experience in large hotel chains is not what we are looking for, as this is a boutique environment requiring independence and adaptability. Strong experience cooking traditional English breakfast is essential. Knowledge of European or Spanish cuisine would be highly valued. Experience managing food ordering and working within a food budget is required. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing boutique guesthouse with a focus on quality, personalised service and seasonal creativity. Salary will be competitive and based on experience. AI tools can support but not fully replace the cook, resulting in moderate automation and AI exposure scores.
